FAQ about gastric balloons

Does the staff at the clinic speak English?

No need to worry about the language barrier, most of the medical staff speak English. Your personal coordinator will be available throughout your stay, from your arrival until your discharge from the clinic.

How much weight will I lose?

Weight loss is very individual and depends to a large extent on the initial weight with which patients come to us. We consider a weight loss of about 15% to be successful, some patients losing up to 30% of their initial weight within a year. However, the goal of treatment is not only weight reduction, but also the path to a healthier diet and lifestyle.

Do I have to attend check-ups after the balloon is in place?

You don't have to. The intragastric balloon does not require additional checks while it is being worn. You will only visit the clinic again at the end of the term, after 6 or 12 months (depending on the type of balloon) or sooner if you have already reached your goal and no longer need the balloon.

Do I have to stay overnight at the clinic?

Staying at the clinic until the next day is highly recommended. During your hospital stay, we will provide you with infusion therapy to ensure adequate hydration and to help relieve nausea. However, if you decide to leave the clinic at your own request during your hospitalization, you will be allowed to do so and you receive medication for home.

How many times do I have to come to the clinic?

The balloon insertion takes just one visit. Using a questionnaire beforehand, we will evaluate together whether an intragastric balloon is an appropriate method. We will arrange the pre-operative examination and the procedure in one visit. You will leave the clinic the following morning at approximately 8 am.
