Gastric balloons

Gastric Balloons help to treat obesity

The gastroenterology team specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of chronic inflammatory bowel disease and offers also non-surgical weight loss procedure.

How gastric balloons may help to treat obesity

About obesity

Obesity causes many serious diseases (high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis). To eliminate their breakout, ISCARE offers conservative non-surgical weight loss for patients with severe obesity (BMI ≥ 30,0). Evaluation of suitability of the gastric balloon is a professional decision made after individual consultation with each patient.

Endoscopic treatment of obesity

We treat obesity using intragastric balloons, which are an effective and safe method of dealing with obesity and its associated complications. This method has a clinical history of over 20 years and proven efficacy. In studies to date, patients have experienced a weight reduction of 15-25 kg within 6 months, however the results depend on the patient's starting weight.

This non-invasive method allows patients to effectively reduce weight by creating a feeling of satiety and reducing stomach volume. The balloon remains in the stomach for 6 months or longer, allowing for gradual acquisition of new eating habits.

A comfortable and effective way to lose weight

This non-invasive method allows patients to reduce weight primarily by creating a feeling of satiety and reducing stomach volume. The balloon remains in the stomach for 6 months or longer, allowing patients to develop new eating habits and more easily follow a new regimen even after the balloon is removed.

Intragastric balloon insertion may cause mild post-implant discomfort such as nausea, vomiting, belching, abdominal pain and bloating. These symptoms are temporary and gradually resolve a few days after implantation.

Who is suitable for the gastric balloon treatment?

Intragastric balloons are optimal for clients with grade I obesity (BMI over 30). Balloons are also used in the prevention or treatment of obesity-related diseases, for example in patients with morbid obesity (BMI over 50) prior to bariatric surgery.

This method is a suitable solution for patients who, for various reasons, are unable or unwilling to undergo other methods of obesity treatment, such as banding, tubulisation or gastric plication. One of the main benefits is that they do not have to undergo general anaesthesia.

Is the gastric balloon right for me?

The gastric balloon is approved to treat obesity (BMI/body mass index over 30,0). This non-surgical weight loss procedure is a prevention or treatment of the diseases caused by obesity and helps improve the patient’s quality of life and potentially prolongs it.
